University of Houston research professor, Dr. Brene Brown, made a powerful statement in one of her TED Talks. She said, "You can choose courage, or you can choose comfort, but you cannot choose both. They are mutually exclusive."
Anything great that has ever been attempted is a result of people choosing courage over comfort. In our self-gratifying minds, we may wish for a life of relative ease and comfort. But nothing of significance has ever been attempted or accomplished this way.
God told Joshua in Joshua 1:9 to "...Be strong and courageous..." The adventure that Joshua was about to embark on would take both strength and courage because it would be difficult. Joshua was going to feel like throwing in the towel, giving up, and just going home to a more comfortable life, one that did not involve so much risk. God gave Him this command because He knew that certain times would arise in Joshua's future where he would have to make a choice between courage and comfort.
