As we come to the close of another year, it is important that we travel back through this year, at least in our minds, and reflect on what we have learned. If we don't reflect on our past, we will not be able to properly move forward into the future. Self-reflection allows us to look seriously at our character, our thoughts, our motives, and our actions, and see where we may have made a wrong turn or didn't live up to our full potential. Self-reflection also keeps us humble and shows us that there is always room for improvement.
So, in the spirit of self-reflection, here are some lessons I learned this past year:
We are all apprentices in the trade of life. We like to think that once we've graduated from some higher level of education, or read a great book, or created something new that we know everything there is to know in the world. But that is simply not the case. We --- me, you, and every person born into the world --- are all apprentices in the trade of life. We must never stop learning, never stop growing, never stop developing, and never stop getting better at what we do. When we learn, we put ourselves in the best position to grow. Every day, if we are open to it, we can and will learn or discover something new.
